Hi all,
Well I've finally arrived at Road Atlanta in preparation for the FormulaCar Magazine Fomula SCCA National Championship race, which is being run in conjunction with the prestigious American Road Race of Champions event. Today (Thursday), the FSCCA drivers took part in a track test day, getting four 30-minute sessions. For the majority of the field, the sessions were used to become acclimated to the high-speed 2.5-mile track layout and begin working on car setup.
While several cars spun off-track during the day, the only incidents of note involved Southwest Division race winner and 2005 ARRC winner Mark Marchbanks, and Southest regular Thomas Donovan. Marchbanks made contact with one of the concrete walls damaging his car, while Donovan suffered a transmission problem. Fortunarely both drivers were expected to be back in action on Friday.
Due to it being a track test day, no official times were kept during the four sessions. However in talking with a number of the drivers, most reported several drivers turning some very quick laps, with Southeast Division Champion Terrick Mansur and San Francisco Region star Brandon Aleckson being named as the quickest of the bunch. Reportedly both drivers posted times in the 1:29 range. Of note, the current FSCCA lap record at Road Atlanta is 1:29.203, set by former SCCA Pro Racing Formula FSCCA race winner Franklin Futrelle in 2004.
If you have any questions for the drivers/crew or about what is going on, feel free to post and I wil get you an answer.

Hey gang,
Before the FSCCA boys go out for their second qualifying session figured I'd pass on a few notes.
The conditions were very good for a fast lap this morning, with many believing the afternoon session will be slightly slower.
Justin Huffman and Keith McDonald were late to the grid and missed a portion of the session. The reason was partly because the duo were fixing a broken half shaft McDonald suffered late on Thursday and partially because where they are paddocked it is very hard to hear the PA.
Brandon Aleckson posted his fast lap despite a malfunctioning ECU, which caused the car to bog down at low RPMs.
Thomas Donovan is continued to experience a transmission problem in the session.
That's all for now. Will be back later with more news.

Morning everyone,
Well the FSCCA drivers have just completed the morning warm-up are now set to go racing. Before the green flag waves here some quick notes.
Brandon Aleckson's crew was working into the night trying to determine and fix the electrical problem which has caused a low rpm bog.
Jim Swain suffered a mechanical failure in the right rear corner of the car early in the second qualifying session, preventing the English born driver from turning many laps in the session. The car has been repaired and is ready to race.
The Dolphin Motorsports crew has fixed the gearbox problem that has been hampering Thomas Donovan.
Erik Skirmants of SCCA Enterprises handed out 96 trophies last night at the awards ceremony. Walking with the most trophies was Southwest Champion Craig Spaulding, who took home eight, thanks to some great results in out division races.
Finally, the weather conditions should make for interesting race, as it is overcast and cooler than the past several days.

Hi gang,
Couple quick post race notes.
Mark Marchbanks, who was running in the top-six during the first of the race, had contact with lapped car and while he was able to continue soon afterwards he had suspension failure on the long back straight and struck the wall.
Justin Huffman's race came to an end, while in third, when he was forced off-course on the last lap by lapped cars and became high-sided.
Both race winner Brandon Aleckson and runner-up Terrick Mansur really enjoyed their race and commented it was a pleasure racing against one another.
I'll be back tomorrow, with news and notes from the Atlanta Region Pro Shootout race.
Of note, interviews with the polesitter and race winner will be posted on the website after i get back to the office.

Hi all,
Well the Pro Shootout race has just ended, and man was it fun to watch. Those who left early from Road Atlanta missed a great race. After a failed initially start, caused by a front-straight incident car, including unfortunately Wally osinga, the race finally got underway. Right from the get go Justin Huffman battled Inge for the FSCCA lead, while Jim Swain, Denny Marklein and Eric Cruz diced for third in class. Lap after lap, the two groups diced for position, with several passes occuring. Coming down to the final lap, Inge captured the win, while Swain moved into second after Huffman spun and continued in turn 10. overall a great race showcasing why FSCCA is great fun to watch. Here is the final order
Matthew Inge
Jim Swain
Justin Huffman
Dennis Marklein
Peter Pope
Keith Field
Keith McDonald
Eric Cruz DNF
Wally Osinga DNF
