USF2000: Perdigao Wins Winterfest Opener at Sebring

Vinicius Perdigao took home top honors in Round One of the inaugural Cooper Tires Winterfest on Monday (January 3) at Sebring International Raceway. Joining the JDC MotorSports rookie on the podium were ArmsUp Motorsports' Trent Hindman and Brian Stewart Racing's Matthew DiLeo.

With the holiday season now over, selected USF2000 National Championship drivers and teams returned to action at the historic Sebring International Raceway road course in central Florida for the opening round the five-race Cooper Tires Winterfest.

Following two morning practice runs and an afternoon qualifying session, it was second-year racer Zach Veach leading the field to green flag in his Andretti Autosport entry. With Mazda Road to Indy MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development driver Spencer Pigot right behind, the Andretti Autosport duo led the way early on. Their good fortune wasn't to last however, as within a lap of one another both Veach and Pigot retired with gearbox failures. Perdigao promptly made the most of the opportunity, with the Brazilian Rotax national champion taking over the lead and never looking back. When the checkered flag waved, Pedrigao's JDC MotorSports entry had taken the win over Hindman and DiLeo. Pabst Racing Services' JR Smart took home the National class (SCCA regulation car) win as the lone entry.

The Cooper Tires Winterfest doubleheader at Sebring International Raceway resumes on Tuesday (January 4), with Round Two.
