EFCN has officially learned that junior formula car standouts Andersen Racing will not be taking part in Firestone Indy Lights or Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear competition in 2011.
Following speculation for the past several weeks, Andersen Racing co-owner Dan Andersen has confirmed the Florida-based team will not be competing in the junior formula car ranks this coming season, electing to focus on the continued growth and development of the Cooper Tires Presents the USF2000 National Championship powered by Mazda, Andersen Karting, and Andersen Raceway Park in Florida.
"As a result of the economy, and the difficulty we have had securing properly budgeted drivers (and then being paid as well), I have decided to close down my two team operations for 2010," said Andersen. "I have enjoyed being a part of every step Road to Indy ladder for quite a few years now, but the reality is that I need to focus on my USF2000 series and my track in Florida, as well as my construction companies, so although it is with some sadness, we have decided to shutter operations for now. I am proud of the work done by my teams in recent years, and I know the various crew guys will all be assets to the teams they are going to for 2011. I believe very strongly in the Road to Indy ladder, and my full focus will now be on making the USF2000 National Championship the best junior formula open-wheel series in the world."
