Jenzer Motorsport's Nico Müller was back on form in the GP3 Series on Friday (July 30) claiming the top spot in the lone practice session at the Hungaroring.

The Swiss driver set his best time of 1:38.181 in the final minutes of an almost trouble-free session in hot conditions, but it was ART Grand Prix's Esteban Gutiérrez and Status Grand Prx's Robert Wickens who were the early pace setters in the session, along with Müller's Jenzer Motorsport's teammates Pål Varhaug and Marco Barber. Tech 1 Racing's Doru Sechelariu was also on the pace early.

Unlike in Germany last week when free practice was action-packed, this time around in Hungary the 30-minute session was almost drama-free except for in the final few minutes, when newcomer Antonio Feliz Da Costa spun his Carlin car in turn 1 and hit the tyre wall without any physical harm.

Müller stayed on top unchallenged at the end of the session, with teammate Varhaug finishing three tenths of a second behind him. Although quick once again, series leader Gutiérrez couldn't catch the pace-setters and settled for third best lap time, ahead of his series title rival and Hockenheim race winner Wickens.

For his first time out in a GP3 car, Jenzer's Marko Barba made an impressive debut filling in for injured driver Simon Trummer, finishing the session with the fifth best lap time. Addax Team's Felipe Guimaraes was sixth quickest, followed by Manor Racing's Adrian Quaife-Hobbs, Stefano Coletti at Tech 1 Racing, Carlin's Dean Smith, and rounding out the top-10 was Coletti's teammate Sechelariu.

American Alexander was 11th fastest in his ART Grand Prix entry, just ahead of 12th place Canadian Daniel Morad in a Status Grand Prix entry, and American Carlin racer Josef Newgarden in 16th.

The action continues Saturday (July 31) at 8:45 a.m. local time with qualifying for Round 11.

The place of the North American racers will be posted following every session on the EFCN Facebook page, EFCN Twitter page, as well as in the EFCN Forums
