Cartech FM Challenge: Series Enjoys Round Five Visit to Summit Point

The Cartech FM Challenge drivers and teams exit the fifth event of the 2009 season having greatly enjoyed their first-ever pairing with the Formula Race Car Club of America at Summit Point Motorsports Park.

Running in conjunction with a Bill Scott Formula Car Series event and the F2000 Championship Series, the Cartech FM Challenge participants were immediately impressed by the FRCCA and the Summit Point facility. The combination of a challenging 2.0-mile road course in the European mold, with the hospitality and efficiency of those organizing/running the action made for highly enjoyable event. Special thanks go out to John Heckman and Jens Scott, who gave all the Cartech drivers and crew a free pass to the karting track at the facility.

While a superb Saturday BBQ, put on by series race hosts Ski Motorsports, and all formula car format were key ingredients to the success of the event, the highlight was as expected the on-track action.

The Cartech FM Challenge competitors routinely showcased the driver skills and the competitive nature of the series during their many sessions on-track. This was particularly evident during the non-points race on Saturday, which witnessed the first-ever Grand Prix style standing start, as well as during the championship points race on Sunday, that featured plenty of side-by-side action. Impressively, only one FM challenge car spun off-course during the four races conducted over the weekend, with no damage of note reported. A full report of the race action will be forth coming.

The 2009 Cartech FM Challenge concludes on August 30, with Round Six conducted at the high-speed Road America road course in Wisconsin.
