| Ontario FF: White Sweeps Season-Opening Doubleheader |

Matt White commenced his 2008 Ontario Formula Ford Challenge season in perfect fashion over the weekend (May 10-11), winning both rounds of the season-opener at Mosport International Raceway.
After the traditional Friday track test day and the morning qualifying session, Round One of the Ontario Formula Ford Challenge commenced Saturday morning with Brian Graham Racing’s Conor Daly and Mortimer Racing’s White leading the 23-car field to green flag. Getting a good launch into and exiting the first turn, the lead duo immediately commenced an exciting battle for first place. Despite repeatedly going side-by-side and swapping places around the fast 2.459-mile road course, the two drivers soon established a gap on Jantzi Racing’s Shane Jantzi, Baker Racing’s Dean Baker and Brian Graham Racing’s Hayden Duerson.
While the action up front proved very entertaining, not far behind the fight for top honors in the B and C class were fun to watch. Mortimer Racing’s Lew MacKenzie and Brian Graham Racing’s Ivan Graham led the way in B, while Lee Racing’s Mike Lee held off the advances of Cove Racing’s Tony Cove in C.
Adding further drama to the 15-lap affair, the race was briefly halted late in the going for a multi-car incident in turn two.
On the ensuing restart, White and Daly resumed their battle for first, with Jantzi in hot pursuit. When the checkered flag waved, White had secured the win by three tenths of a second over Daly. Jantzi completed the top-three, leading Baker and Britain West Motorsports driver Rick Doktor to the flag. MacKenzie was the victor in the B class ahead of Graham, while Lee led the way in the C class ahead of Cove.
Returning the fast road course west of Toronto one day later, White and Daly again started on the front-row, with the race one winner in P1. Renewing the battle for OFFC supremacy, Sunday’s race again featured White and Daly repeatedly exchanging the lead in front of Jantzi, Baker and Duerson. Deeper in the field Purdy Racing’s Dan Purdy led MacKenzie and Graham in the B class, while Lee easily retained the C class lead.
As expected the win in Round Two came down to the final few corners. Holding off several spirited challenges from his second-generation racing counterpart, White completed the weekend sweep. Daly and Jantzi joined the race winner on the podium, leading Baker and Doktor to the start/finish. Purdy scored his first B class win of the season, narrowly edging MacKenzie, while Lee made it two in a row in the C class, beating Celvosky Racing’s Andrew Celvosky to the line.
The Ontario Formula Ford Challenge season continues, May 31-June 1, at Shannonville Motorsports Park in eastern Ontario.
