| 45th FV Birthday Party - Grids Set for Historic Event |

The fields have been set for the 45th Formula Vee Birthday Celebration races, following Saturday qualifying (April 5th) at Roebling Road Raceway.
After a day of testing at the road course in Southern Georgia, the action officially got underway on Saturday morning with all the various Formula Vee groups (Current, Monoposto, Historic and Formula First) running 15-minute practice sessions. Providing an added challenge to the over 100 competitors, rain and a wet track greeted the Birthday Celebration participants. The weather soon improved, with the track rapidly drying for the early afternoon 20-minute qualifying sessions. A sudden severe rainstorm however halted the race activities for just over an hour, prior to the final two qualifying sessions being run on a wet track. At the conclusion of the day’s activities the grids had been set for the Monoposto, Historic and Formula First feature races and the three current FV heat races, to be contested on Sunday (April 6th).
Mike Jackson, having posted the fastest time (1:39.070) in the Monoposto qualifying session, will start on the pole position in the renowned Harvey Templeton Shadowfax, and will be joined on the front-row by Don Pepperdine in the lone Leech MK1 in the field.
Piloting the lone Super Vee in attendance, John Petrush, captured the pole position for the Historic race with a quick lap of 1:32.953. Joining the Ralt RT5 driver on the font-row for the 15-lap race, will be Robert Miller, in a Caldwell D13, having set the second fastest time in the session.
Following an entertaining qualifying session, Scott Meyer’s Mystique M5 captured the pole position for Sunday’s Formula First race via a fast lap of 1:25.242, edging Robert Clark’s Evolution in the 20-minute session.
The first of three current Formula Vee groups on course, the session featured a dry track until the final minutes, when a severe thundershower arrived. Rick Shields having posted a fast time of 1:24.487 in his VDF-2 prior to the rain arriving, secured the P1 position for the Sunday afternoon heat race, ahead of William Cooper III in a Protoform P3.
Due to the sudden change in weather and lightning in the area, Group Two’s qualifying session was delayed for over 30-minutes. Taking to a wet track, local standout Stevan Davis posted the fastest time (1:30.383) in his Racer's Wage, earning the pole position for the group’s heat race, with fellow former National Champion Brad Stout starting alongside on the front-row in his Vortech.
The final current FV group, also qualifying on a wet track, witnessed Ed Womer posting the quickest time (1:34.055) in a Womer Ev-3, lining up P1 for the 10-lap heat race. Charlie Rogers will start second in a Protoform P2.
The 45th Formula Vee Birthday celebration, which is being presented by Presented by the Buccaneer SCCA Region and the VDCA, resumes on Sunday (April 6th) with racing for all various classes taking part in the event.
