The Formula SCCA spec car community will see a massive new regional race package unveiled when the 2006 season gets underway thanks to a new relationship between FormulaCar Magazine and SCCA Enterprises.. The two organizations have put their collective heads together to create the new FormulaCar Magazine FSCCA Championship Series.
Contested at SCCA Club Racing Regional events in four divisions – Central, Northeast, Southeast and Southwest - the FCM FSCCA Championship Series will determine the best Formula SCCA drivers in the United States while, at the same time, bringing FSCCA car owners together in dedicated regional series competition for the first time since the program’s debut.
“As part of our continued efforts to nurture the regional road racing community, backing the launch of this new program with our editorial support was a no-brainer,” commented FCM Editor-in-Chief Rob Howden. “I had a chance to drive the Formula SCCA car last summer and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I think that the car will reach a certain demographic that is looking for this type of package and this regional series will be a great way to get these new car owners together for some exciting racing.”
“SCCA Enterprises is very proud of the FSCCA car and the loyalty and camaraderie that has developed amongst our customers,” added SCCA Enterprises President Erik Skirmants. “Coordinating events for them and offering exposure for all of our racers was an immediate goal as we looked at 2006. Along with our new marketing and advertising efforts came a relationship with Rob Howden and FCM and we were able to blend our mutual interests in the betterment of the junior formula classes into these series."
Howden has pledged the support of both his magazine (FormulaCar) and his new website – http://www.eformulacarnews.com. Coverage of all four divisions will be highlighted through the 2006 season in FCM and online updates from the individual series will make their way onto EFCN soon after the weekend events. The program will also be given a dedicated webpage on EFCN that will be updated with current points and event report links.
Using the SCCA points system (12, 9, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1), up to eight races in each division including up to two races from out of division will be used to determine the Divisional Champions. In recognition of winning the title, each Divisional Championship will have a minimum of $5,000 in final prize money, while the top-three in each division will receive travel money or incentives for a soon-to-be-announced season-ending “Runoffs” type event.
EFCN will provide more information on the national championship event as it becomes available.
