BOWMANVILLE, ONT. (August 6, 2012) - For the first time in his short formula car career, Quebec's Jesse Lazare returned to a track that he had raced at before - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP). His return became a triumphant one as this time he stood on the top of the podium, collecting his first formula car victory in dominating fashion. Lazare won by 17.3 seconds in his BGR Team Grote Piper DF5/Honda.

"I am so happy right now," the excitable 15 year-old said after his first F1600 win. "It was a tough race - with all the rain - but the BGR team gave me a great car," Lazare said.

From fourth on the grid, Lazare wasted little time moving forward on the damp track. He immediately moved up to second place by turn three, and then took the lead by the second lap.

"It [the rain] wasn't that bad at the start, but then it started to rain hard. Brian [Graham] was telling me how hard the rain was, so I just adjusted my driving to what he was telling me," Lazare said.

As the race progressed, the rain became worse, but Lazare kept his pace and continued to grow his lead.

"This was the first time I have driven a car race in the rain, and I was surprised just how slick the track became. I was sliding around a lot," Lazare said.

Lazare's lead continued to grow throughout the race. When he crossed the line to claim his first F1600 victory, he had amassed a 17.3 second lead.

"Thanks to everyone concerned," Lazare said. "This was a tough race, and the BGR team gave me a great car along with good information while the race was going on. Now, I can't wait to call my Dad!"

Lazare will now turn his sites back to karting as he will contest the ASN Canada FIA Canadian National Karting Championship at Mont-Tremblant in just a few weeks' time.

Jesse Lazare is a 15 year-old kart racer from Dollard des Ormeaux, Que., and he is the current Coupe de Montreal Rotax Max Jr Champion. Lazare's meteoric rise up the karting ranks has been nothing short of amazing. In 2006, as a Cadet, he was second in the Coupe Vega. In 2007, as the youngest driver in Mini Max he was the Champion in both the Coupe Vega and Coupe de Montreal. Lazare set new records in 2008 by starting out as vice-champion in the Florida Winter Tour, then winning both Honda Jr and Mini Max in both the Coupe Vega and Coupe de Montreal. He was also Canadian National Champion in Mini Max. In 2010, Lazare won the ECKC Rotax Jr championship and the Coupe de Quebec Rotax Max Jr Champion. He also was runner up in the Coupe de Montreal championship. Away from the track, Lazare enjoys skiing and hockey, and he attends Lindsay Place High School, (Pointe Claire, Que.).
