Henrique Martins clinched his second win in the Italian Formula 3 Championship on Sunday (August 5) at the Red Bull Ring.
The Brazilian of the Prema Powerteam got the most out of an unhappy start by Patric Niederhauser and Kevin Giovesi that occupied the front-row, passing both of them, along with his teammate Brandon Maisano. After getting the lead, Martins increased his advantage lap by lap without giving any chance to his rivals.
The Maisano, a french driver in the Ferrari Driver Academy racing, ended the race some six seconds behind Martins at the stripe, but he had a comfortable advantage over Giovesi, strengthening his second place in the championship. Giovesi, who drives for Ghinzani, 'won' a very tight battle for the third step of the podium that involved at least five drivers. Niederhauser (BVM) first, then Nicholas Latifi and Riccardo Agostini (JD Motorsport), and Giovesi exchanged position in the fight for position, before the Italian took home P3.
Behind Giovesi at the stripe was Agostini, and Sergey Sirotkin (Euronova). Sixth went to the Romanian Robert Visoiu (Ghinzani), who proceeded the Canadian Latifi, author of a very good race. The poleman Niederhauser finished only eighth after he spun on lap six.
Mario Marasca (BVM) was ninth, followd by Yoshitaka Kuroda (Euronova). Eddie Cheever (Prema) went out on lap three, after taking the worst of contact with Sirotkin.
The Italian Formula 3 Championship tripleheader at the Red Bull Ring resumes on Sunday afternoon (August 5).
The top-three, along with how the North American racers did, will be posted following every session on the EFCN Facebook page, and EFCN Twitter page.
