FORT COLLINS. COLO. (August 2, 2012) - Scott Anderson, the 2011 Skip Barber National Champion and MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development Scholarship recipient, heads to the rolling confines of the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course this weekend as the 2012 Cooper Tires USF2000 Powered Mazda series returns to action following a long break in the calendar.
Anderson last saw racing action in late May during the Night Before the 500 event that saw the only oval race of the season. Anderson was able to take fourth place, just missing the podium in a great run up the time sheets. Anderson and the Belardi team have undertaken a busy testing schedule that included stops at Road America, Black Hawk Farms, Gingerman Raceway and the official series test at Mid-Ohio back in May.
"LRP was a great result for my first oval," commented Anderson. "It's been a long break and we have had a chance to do some testing at different tracks which helped me to better understand the car. The Belardi guys have really been doing a great job helping me to get the most out of the car and I can't wait to get racing again."
The stellar field of 2.0-liter standouts will take to the 2.25 mile, 13-turn track in support of the IZOD IndyCar series and the American Le Mans Series. Anderson sits sixth in the championship point standings in the 22-car field, just five points back of fifth. Anderson will line up his Belardi Auto Racing's No. 14 machine with the support of MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development, Neuropathy Testing Center and Laser Nail Centers. On hand to also support Anderson will be coach and manager Derek Daly of the Derek Daly Academy.
"Scott is growing in his understanding of what it takes to piece together a successful weekend of racing," states Derek Daly, Anderson's manager. "Success will come his way if he focuses on the basics and increases his understanding."
An expert skier, the Fort Collins, Colo., resident joins the MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development ladder after winning the 2011 BFGoodrich/Skip Barber National Championship Presented by Mazda and is racing in the 2012 Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship powered by Mazda with Belardi Auto Racing. Anderson would like to thank MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development, Skip Barber Racing School, Laser Nail Centers of Colorado and Neuropathy Testing Centers for their support. Anderson is also a member of the Derek Daly Academy led by former Formula One driver Derek Daly.
Away from the track, Anderson resides and attends college in Fort Collins, Colorado.
