ENGLAND (June 26, 2012) - For rounds 10, 11 and 12 of the Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain, Fabian Welter and his Rendez-Vous Racing team had mainly one goal – to increase the youngster’s lead in the Duratec championship before the summer break.
Returning to Brands Hatch, however, this time on the longer Grand Prix layout, the British championship regulars were joined by others for the opening round of the Formula Ford Eurocup.
Welter discovered the mighty Grand Prix circuit on Friday (June 22), on which he improved progressively throughout the day.
As qualifying arrived on Saturday morning, Welter increased his confidence around the challenging circuit to secure a clean sweep of the pole positions for the three races.
However, with the arrival of race one came drama for the youngster. A minor clutch failure ahead of the start forced Welter to relinquish his class pole start, as he steered his way to the back of the grid.
Encouraged by his optimistic nature, Welter soon proved his worth amongst his opponents. In just 12 laps he had stormed through the field to pass his Duratec challengers and score a very welcome class victory.
"When we saw Fabian stalling on the grid we thought that was it but then he amazed us by coming back so quickly, to show a strong determination," said RVR team manager Philippe Layac. "The fact he managed to increase his points lead by passing his closest title rival on the last lap was the icing on the cake. What Fabian achieved was fantastic, it was a very impressive drive."
In the wake of race one’s commotion, the second and third outings were more of a breeze for Welter and RVR. Despite fierce battles with his Eurocup counterparts he was able to score two more victories to enhance his title bid in the best possible way.
"After race two we realised that Fabian could be in a comfortable position in the championship by the end of the weekend, which was a good feeling as it is not yet confirmed if he will complete the season.
“All we asked of him was that he take zero risk fighting with the Eurocup drivers. In each race Fabian focused on staying behind them, which was a bit frustrating for him, but proved to be a very mature decision in the end. He has now gone from being 62 points ahead to leading the Duratec championship by 113 points, which leaves us in a position to study our options," concluded Layac.
The whole RVR crew is now on a mission to find its young gun the rest of the budget to finish the season.
Advertising space is available on the car, as well as different business opportunities with the RVR Academy. Please get in touch with Philippe Layac if you wish to join the RVR adventure in 2012 or perhaps in the long term.
