WAYSIDE, N.J. (June 26, 2012) – There are good race weekends, where everything falls into place and you end the weekend with good results, and there are bad race weekends where something breaks or you make a mistake or get caught up in someone else’s mistake, and you end the weekend with a trailer of parts and possibly a crash damage bill. And then there are those unremarkable, mid-pack weekends like Trent Hindman experienced recently at the Thruxton Circuit outside Andover, England for Rounds Six and Seven of the 2012 Protyre Formula Renault BARC Championship.
“Thruxton is a great track. Before I got here I described it as a flatter, wider version of Lime Rock Park”, said Hindman upon returning to his Wayside, N.J. home. “After driving it, I think the better comparison is to Mosport in Ont. Like Mosport, Thruxton has a lot of fast, sweeping corners mixed with some tricky, low speed stuff. The biggest difference is the elevation changes, or the lack of elevation changes at Thruxton.”
Hindman saw the 2.4-mile Thruxton Circuit for the first time Sunday morning for Free Practice, where a 1:14.621 lap put him 12th out of 26 cars on the time sheet; 0.892 behind his Cliff Dempsey Racing teammate Scott Malvern. His two quickest qualifying laps of 1:14.166 and 1:14.309 put him 15th on the grid for both races.
“We fought a balance issue the entire weekend. At a track like Thruxton, where you are full throttle for most of the lap and rely on a low drag, low downforce setup for speed, anything that requires excessive control inputs is going to scrub speed and hurt your times.”
After dropping to as low as 18th at the beginning of race one, Hindman came to grips with the car and the track and began to claw his way back. By the end of the 12 lap race, Hindman was three positions ahead of his starting spot, taking 12th place. Race two provided a bit more drama as a lap one incident took out cars in front of Hindman, allowing him to move up to 11th place, where he ran for a majority of race before being caught and overtaken by Chris Middlehurst on the last lap to settle for 12th.
“Overall I’m disappointed with how the weekend went, but the team’s results overall show that the potential is there. We have to just keep working at it starting next month at Croft.”
Trent Hindman returns to the U.K. and heads to the Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire on the weekend of July 21-22, for Rounds Eight & Nine of the 2012 Protyre Formula Renault BARC Championship.
Wayside, N.J. native Trent Hindman comes to the 2012 Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda off a diverse season of racing that includes winning the Ontario Formula Ford Championship, a runner-up finish in the BFGoodrich/Skip Barber National Presented by Mazda and selection to the prestigious Team USA Scholarship. Hindman will return to the U.K. in 2012 with Cliff Dempsey Racing to contest the Formula Renault BARC Championship. A former Skip Barber Karting Scholarship Shoot-out winner, Hindman’s goal is to progress through the “Mazda Road to Indy” program, culminating in a ride in the IZOD IndyCar Series. Hindman is racing with defending USF2000 champions Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing and would like to thank Sparco, Racelite Protection and Altemus Prime Communications for their support.
Away from the track, Hindman attends Ocean Township High School in Oakhurst, N.J. He resides in Wayside with his parents Doug and Kim and his sister Sloane. Learn more about Trent Hindman at http://www.trenthindman.com

Regarded as the premier and most cost-effective junior single-seater series in the U.K., the Protyre Formula Renault BARC Championship provides the perfect entry-level category for all aspiring young drivers.
Manufacturer supported, it bridges the gap between karting and series such as Formula Renault UK giving drivers the chance to gain vital race experience on the UK’s leading circuits and in a top carbon fiber machine which is still raced all over Europe.
It also remains one of the foremost feeder series to Formula Renault UK and has helped many drivers go on to greater stardom such as 2007 runner-up Dean Stoneman who in three years has already tested a Formula One car.
Keen to further strengthen its appeal, organizers have a number of exciting new features planned for 2011 including a link with the Lotus Renault GP Team and the introduction of a BTCC appearance – exposing teams and drivers to the capacity crowds and high profile of the TOCA package.
