Tristan Vautier earned his first Firestone Indy Lights oval track pole at the historic Milwaukee Mile on Friday afternoon (June 15) in only his second series oval track race.

Vautier, driving the No. 77 Mazda Road to Indy/SSM with Curb Agajanian car, recorded a two-lap average speed of 146.884 mph (49.7536 cumulative time) to claim the team's 51st pole start. Victor Carbone (146.429 mph) will join the 2011 Star Mazda champion on the front-row.

Vautier, who is second in the series standings to teammate Esteban Guerrieri following five events, started from the pole in his first Firestone Indy Lights race at the St. Petersburg (Fla.) opener in March, which he converted into a win.

"It feels so good to be on pole for this track because it’s a tough track," Vautier said. "Our car was awesome this morning. I felt a lot of pressure going into qualifying because I knew we could do it, and I just had to do the job. But there are 100 laps, pole is one point and the race is worth 50 points, so we have a lot of work ahead of us still."

Sebastian Saavedra in the No. 27 Team AFS car and Carlos Munoz, driving the No. 26 Team Dialy-Ser car for Andretti Autosport will share row two. Munoz was quickest in the 30-minute practice session immediately following qualifications with a lap of 25.9844 seconds (140.623 mph). Vautier was 0.1857 of a second behind in second.

The 100-lap race at Milwaukee Mile is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. local time.

The top-three will be posted following every session on the EFCN Facebook page, and EFCN Twitter page.
