Robinson Motor Sports is proud to announce the signing of Eric Filgueiras to drive one of the team's Formula Enterprises entries for the first race of the 2012 Cooper Tires USF2000 National Championship powered by Mazda at Sebring International Raceway.

With a proven winning record in the Formula Enterprises class, including two National Championship titles, Robinson Motor Sports is poised to continue this tradition with series newcomer Filgueiras. The Florida native will make his USF2000 National Championship debut in mid-March at Sebring, piloting an National class FE car with the ultimate goal of not only challenging for top honors, but also securing the funding to run the entire Mazda Road to Indy series.

"I have been working with Eric and we have come to an agreement for Eric to race one of our cars at the Sebring event on March 15th and 16th," stated Robin Motor Sports owner Mick Robinson. "We are in further discussion to complete the rest of the race series with several sponsors, so it looks promising that Eric will be a contender for the 2012 National class championship title."

Filgueiras, who turns 18 on January 21st, was recently invited to the Mazda Road to Indy Scouting Combine at Andersen RacePark, where he impressed in a Championship class car. The talented teenager joins Robinson Motor Sports having won several races and a championship in karts, prior to finding success in SCCA Club Racing Formula 500 competition via a family operated team.

"I have had several tests in the Championship class USF2000 cars which has set my direction in racing in the Mazda Road to Indy series," commented Filgueiras. "The Formula Enterprises is the entry level for the series with a lower cost than the F2000 cars that will also compete in the events. Robinson Motor Sports has an outstanding record of running the cars, so it was a natural choice for me to sign with them.

"I would also sincerely like to thank Jim Booth, who has helped me with my racing career in the past, for providing sponsorship for this event."

Robinson Motor Sports is a two-time National Champion in the Formula Enterprises class, and has had many podium finishes in the SCCA Pro series and the SCCA National Championship Runoffs with several different drivers. The team holds nine current FE track records with four different drivers. The use of the Competition Data systems and GoPro video systems help set-up the cars and train/develop the drivers after each on-track session. Team Manager and Crew Chief Mark Eaton has extensive knowledge of the data system, and is a two-time National Champion driving the Formula Enterprises racecar.

The Cooper Tires Presents the USF2000 National Championship Powered by Mazda season begins on March 16-17, as part of the 60th Anniversary Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. Ahead of the season-opener, the second annual Cooper Tires Winterfest series gets underway on February 6-7, at Sebring International Raceway.
