As the final checkered flag over the 40th Formula Ford Festival, the Team Canada entry was already parked, but not without making a spectacular debut and also making history! Xavier Coupal showed Europe that he was a serious threat to take it all with a second place in his Heat race, and then backed that up with a dominant win in his Semi-Final. The Semi-Final win and his quick pace meant he would do something that no other Canadian driver has ever done, start from the pole at the world renowned Formula Ford Festival.

In the Final, Coupal lead from the green and looked strong, before Irelandís Ivor McCullough used his Brands Hatch experience to find a way past on lap two. The young Quebecois racer stayed in close contact with him as they entered the seventh lap. As they entered The Druids corner, Team USA driver Neil Alberico made an attempt on Coupal and the two had contact. Unfortunately it was the Team Canada driver who came out on the losing end, and with the car in the gravel trap the race was over for Coupal.

The fastest lap, Semi-Final win, and pole position in the main event will have to do for now, as the Team Canada Scholarship Program will look to build on what was an unbelievable start!

"Dave, Gerry, and I are so proud of our driver Xavier Coupal, the Cliff Dempsey Racing Team and very thankful to all of our sponsors and supporters who made this a memorable week", commented Brian Graham, one of the three Team Canada Founders. "We showcased the caliber of young talent that Canadian Formula Ford produces, and look forward to going back and challenging for the win again. Xavier really did a great job and was definitely the driver to beat from the first practise day to the final. The entire Cliff Dempsey Team welcomed us with open arms and gave us everything we needed to compete at the front. It was a great learning experience for all of us, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We will catch our breath now and then immediately start working on the 2012 program, where we hope we can send two young Canadians to the Festival next year.
